No pre-production. No script. No commissioning editor. No Errors and Omissions Insurance policy. Only the passion to share a vision of a faraway land and culture.
In August 2008, Fabrice hitchhiked from Paris to Moscow and took the train to Novosibirsk on to Tomsk with a copy of “Shut up and Shoot” and a Sony HVR A1E in his backpack.
He found Oleg Shevelyov, who was to become the hero of Good Boys, through hospitalityclub.org. He filmed him for a week as he was getting ready to leave Tomsk.
Fabrice posted A4 poster advertisements in the 7 local universities and started off interviewing university students.
In early October, he was contacted by a large number of local newspapers and T.V. broadcasters. One day, he received a phone call from a man called Alex who wanted to meet up with me. Three guys wearing fancy suits showed up at the meeting. They had heard about the film in the press and wanted to help him. He answered he had no money and they replied they did not give him a call for money. IntroFilm, a Tomsk-based production company, ended up co-producing the project.
One day, Fabrice got to know Alexei Lermontov in a music shop. Alexei played his music composition on the spot and Fabrice immediately offered him to score the soundtrack of the film.
Vardan Kostandyan, a local music shows organizer, joined the project to co-organize two screenings of the film.
